Whale Songs and Ocean Breezes

Whale Songs and Ocean Breezes

By Fiona Liu
Ever since I was a child, I’ve dreamed of seeing whales in their natural habitat. That dream came true on a trip to Canada’s Bay of Fundy. As our boat cruised through the calm waters, a humpback whale breached right in front of us, sending waves of excitement through the group. Our guide, Iona, explained the behaviors of the whales and taught us how to listen for their songs using a hydrophone.

The adventure didn’t stop there. Iona led us on a coastal hike where we spotted seals lounging on the rocks and learned about the unique tidal ecosystem of the Bay of Fundy. In the evenings, we enjoyed fresh seafood while watching the sunset over the ocean. It was a trip that reminded me of the incredible diversity of life and the importance of preserving it.
